Specialist IT Training @ COMM-TECH

Objective

To train a volunteer to provide 1st and 2nd level IT support adequate for servicing the basic needs of a small organisation using a Windows network. The student will become comfortable with configuring client machines running Windows 2000/XP on a Windows domain, and comfortable with all aspects of supporting users on that network.

8 days (2 days x 4 weeks)

Overview

The course consists primarily of hands-on work, with theory that is directly applicable to the Objective. The teaching is done 1-on-1 so the student will have guidance at all times performing the practical tasks outlined herein. The first 6 days will take place at Comm-Tech, with the 2 remaining days at the client's site.

Week 1: The workstation

Week 2

The server plays an essential role in a computer network. It needs to be managed and maintained to keep it running smoothly. The second and third weeks of the course are dedicated to Windows Server 2003. Topics include:

Week 3

We will see how all the above mentioned modules work with each other and how they rely and interface with each other. In this final week, the trainee will be shown how to approach and solve real network environment problems. The most usual amongst these are:

The student will be guided through helping in these scenarios, and may attend an actual call-out.

Week 4

Conducted onsite, under the close supervision of the trainer, developing support procedures useful to the site.
